Born in 1937, Jiang was illiterate before the age of 60. To relieve Jiang's distress after the death of her husband in 1996 in a car accident, her daughter Zhang Ailing taught the aged woman reading and writing since then. With her daughter's encouragement, Jiang tried to write a book. In 2013, Jiang's first book was published. So far, the 82-year-old writer has published five books and won several awards.
