BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Peru at 5:04 p.m. Friday Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The epicenter was monitored at 10.95 degrees south latitude and 70.75 degrees west longitude.

The quake struck at a depth of about 600 km.
