RAMALLAH, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces detained at least 17 Palestinians, demolished a home, and sealed off a town in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, while settlers reportedly set fire to property in a separate incident.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club, a nongovernmental organization, said in a statement that Israeli forces raided homes in Nablus, Bethlehem, Hebron, and Ramallah. The group said the 17 detainees included two women and a child.

Violence across the West Bank has intensified since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023. Palestinian officials say more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and about 22,000 detained since the conflict began.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the latest operations.

In the town of Turmus Ayya, northeast of Ramallah, Israeli forces blocked roads with earth mounds and closed secondary routes, according to local officials. Abdullah Awad, a member of the town council, said the measures left the community of 4,000 people largely cut off, disrupting schools and daily services.

Separately, in the village of Kafr ad-Dik, west of Salfit, witnesses said Israeli settlers set fire to two agricultural structures. Settler violence, including arson and land incursions, has risen sharply over the last year, according to Palestinian sources and international monitors.

The Palestinian Authority's Commission Against the Wall and Settlements reported that Israeli authorities demolished 37 inhabited homes and 34 agricultural structures across the West Bank in April.

Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast War. Most of the international community considers the settlements Israel has built there illegal or obstacles to peace. More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in the territory alongside about 3.4 million Palestinians.
