ISLAMABAD, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's exports rebounded in April, rising on both yearly and monthly basis, according to provisional data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday.

Exports increased 14.03 percent year on year to 2.48 billion U.S. dollars in April, compared with 2.17 billion dollars a year earlier. On a month-on-month basis, exports also grew 9.5 percent, showing recovery after declining in the previous two months.

The improvement in exports, however, was outweighed by a sharper rise in imports, which climbed 7.46 percent year on year and surged 28.41 percent month on month to 6.55 billion dollars.

As a result, the trade deficit widened to 4.07 billion dollars in April, reflecting stronger import demand.

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, exports declined 6.25 percent to 25.21 billion dollars, while imports rose 6.94 percent to 57.19 billion dollars, the data showed.

The cumulative trade deficit during the period expanded 20.28 percent to 31.98 billion dollars compared with the same period last year.

The PBS said the figures are provisional and may be revised after the inclusion of additional customs data from the Federal Board of Revenue. ■
