BUENOS AIRES, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Luciano Cingolani scored late as Gimnasia Mendoza recovered from a goal down to secure a 2-1 home win over Defensa y Justicia on the last day of Argentina's Apertura regular season on Monday.
Ayrton Portillo gave the visitors the lead with a 12th-minute strike but Ezequiel Munoz equalized on the half hour with a powerful finish following a set piece.
Cingolani completed the turnaround in the 73rd minute when he combined with Ignacio Sabatini and finished clinically into the bottom-right corner.
The result left Gimnasia 11th in the 15-team Group A standings, behind 10th-placed Defensa y Justicia on goal difference. Both sides failed to claim a playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Florian Monzon and Ignacio Ramirez scored second-half goals as Velez Sarsfield drew 1-1 at home to Newell's Old Boys.
It meant Velez ended the season third in Group A, setting up a round-of-16 clash with Gimnasia La Plata. Newell's finished 14th and out of contention for a playoff berth.
In Tuesday's only other match, Instituto Cordoba won 2-0 at Estudiantes Rio Cuarto, with both teams missing the last 16. ■
