Macedonia adopts new strategy to reform culture sector

SKOPJE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Macedonian government Tuesday adopted the 2018-2022 National Strategy for Culture Development and the Action Plan aimed at launching a comprehensive reforms in the field of culture.

Macedonian Minister of Culture Robert Alagjozovski said on a news conference that the main objectives of the five-year cultural strategy involved decentralization and de-metropolization of culture but also easy access to culture for all citizens equally.

According to the minister, steps in the plan include support to initiatives of the municipalities to establish new cultural institutions or to increase the number of institutions under their jurisdiction by providing fiscal conditions and awarding more money allocated through block grants for cultural activities.

Further, the minister said that protection of cultural heritage was top priority of government.

"A list of monuments of national significance will be complied, as well as a national action plan on prevention of crime involving cultural heritage," Alagjozovski said.
